The Promises of God
February 7th, 2020
“…And in thee and thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And behold I am with you, and will keep you in all places wherever you may go, and I will bring you again unto this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken to you of (Gen. 28:14-15 – KJV)
The patriarch Jacob now destitute with only a stone for a pillow, is now given certain promises from the Lord. As God gave these promises to Jacob when he was in a place that only Faith could reach out and take it, so the same can be said of us concerning the promise of Salvation, Healing or any other gift from God. It can only be received from the position of Faith!
It would be through Jacob and his family that the promised redeemer would come. That is what is meant when the Lord said to Jacob, “in thee, and thy seed (Jesus Christ) shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” All the families of the earth can be blessed with “justification by faith” because of the redeemer (Acts 3:26; Gal. 3:16). Jacob would have 12 sons with the redeemer coming forth through the 4th son, Judah, whose name means praise!
The Lord not only told Jacob that the redeemer would come through his family, but He added: “I am with you, I will keep you, I will bring you again unto this land, and I won’t leave you until I have done all of that which I have spoken to you”….Can I tell you that If the Lord has spoken anything to you, and irrespective as to what it might be, if you will only walk in obedience, and continue to look to Christ by Faith God will bring it to pass…
This is what Paul meant when he said:
“For all the promises of God in Him, are yea, and in him Amen, unto the Glory of God…” (2 Cor. 1:20 - KJV)
Will he Save you, yes, Will he Heal you, yes, Will he deliver you, yes, will he supply your needs, yes, yes, yes!!
Now, many times the problem is that God’s people will say yes, to what God can do, but when God asks something of them, the response is, "no I can’t do that"…BUT God is looking for someone like Abraham to say "Lord, here am I”…he is looking for someone like Moses to say “here am I” when he needs a representative before kings….he is looking for someone like Samuel to say, “Here am I” when it comes to ministering in the church…God is looking for some yes men and women! Yes, to his will, yes to his way, yes Lord I will obey!
Stephen Olford was born on March 29, 1918. The first seventeen years of his life would be spent in the heart of Africa where he witnessed the marvelous power of God working through the lives of his missionary parents. Stephen would ultimately leave the home he had known, and loved, and move to England where he would attend college and pursue a career in engineering. While in college his thesis project was carburetion. He was able to develop a special carburetion system and took up motorcycle racing to demonstrate the efficiency of his new invention. On his way home from a race one cold and rainy night he crashed his motorcycle, and lay injured on the road in the rain for several hours. As a result Pneumonia began to quickly set in with the Doctors announcing after a point in time that Stephen only had a, "couple weeks to live."
Laying on his death bed, Stephen Olford received a letter from his father in Africa. It took three months for a letter to travel from Africa to England, so when the letter was written his father knew nothing of the situation, but in the providence of God the letter contained words that would forever change the life of Stephen Olford. His father wrote, “One life twill soon be past, Only what is done for Christ will last.” Stephen fell under deep conviction. He slipped out of bed, dropped to his knees, and cried out to God. He prayed, “Lord, You have won and I own You as King of Kings and Lord of lords...and Lord if you will heal my body, I will serve You anywhere, anytime, and at any cost!
God answered Stephen Olford's prayer that day, and healed his body! But Stephen Olford also answered the call of God on his life, and became one of the great preachers and expositors of the word of God….he followed the lord anywhere, anytime, and at any cost! I pray that each of us would do likewise because all the promises of God are “yes and Amen”!
God’s Luv & Best to you! In Christ – Clint
